About the event

Prof. Ko Matsushita is considered by many to be one of the most industrious Japanese composers and conductors of his era. At over 800 and growing, Ko's choral compositions span from works based on traditional Japanese music, masses, motets, contemporary pieces, choral orchestral works to etudes for choirs. His works are performed by choirs around the world, with lyrics exploring the beauty of nature, humanity, war and peace, and reminiscence after tragedies.

Matsushita is currently the conductor and artistic director of 13 esteemed choirs in Japan, which regularly perform in Japan and internationally. Ko is an active workshop clinician, lecturer, and adjudicator of international choral competitions. In 2005, he was awarded the "Robert Edler Prize for Choral Music" in recognition of his outstanding achievements worldwide in conducting, composing, performance, and education within the field of choral music. He is currently the CEO of the International Choral Organization of Tokyo, a Founding Director of the Asian Choral Association and a member of the Interkultur World Choir Council.

Founded in 2017, Ko Chorus is a registered, non-profit choir performing choral works by Prof. Ko Matsushita and other Japanese composers. The choir has appeared in a number of concerts, and has also given virtual performances on the cyber stage since the start of COVID-19 pandemic. Ko Chorus believes that live choral music plays an important role in bringing joy and hope to the community, and reconnects people through shared emotions. To celebrate its 5th anniversary, Ko Chorus is proud to present an evening of fine compositions by Prof. Ko Matsushita in collaboration with four outstanding choirs, with Prof. Matsushita as the honorable guest conductor, live in Hong Kong! We hope you will all come and share this momentous occasion!
